the first release back in 1997 on 4 track records was by dj hyperactive titled p.51 and here were are nearly 20 years later and we’re going to see the next release again by hyperactive on vinyl again titled “black on black” ep. this ep will be three tracks, 2 which are acid tracks and one long experimental spaced out track.

during the development of the label direction and ideology evolving from the existing brand, we carefully picked our first few family members. the artists were picked to fit the ideology in both musical and personal character.
pawas is someone we have admired for a while for his work ethic and talent. his multicultural background was a nice mix into the equation as we push to bring together and collaborate with artists from various regions and influences.

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

laurine frost and denis kaznacheev teamed up to syud. their first ep ‘soho’ based on studio tapes which were recorded earlier in a small village not too far from moscow. all the three extraordinary pieces obviously contain modular synth, field recording elements and show the alloy of unique frost-kaznacheev style. tricky rumbling, heavy rolling basslines and crazy concept. joyfully intelligent tunes inside and outside of the dancefloors.

drawing from the leftfield avant-pop of arthur russell and talking heads, progressive disco of nile rodgers and contemporary ambient electronica, retiree channel these influences through their own pervasive aura of rum-drunk antipodean sunshine. the result is music that is in equal parts lush, thoughtful melody and meditative tropical rhythm. the ep sees joint international release from peckham label rhythm section international who released the instant classic debut of al dobson jr, and were nominated for label of the year at gilles peterson s 2015 worldwide awards, as well as purveyors of southern hemisphere groove-driven underground pop, plastic world (gl, savoir).

fantastic voyage continues to bring the sugar series to vinyl, with 32 standout tracks selected by stuart colman from the 75-track 3cd set sassy sugar. sassy sugar is the successor to the thoroughly-recommended fantastic voyage compilations, heavy sugar (fvdv051) and savvy sugar (fvdv059). whereas those releases were devoted to new orleans and the west coast respectively, sassy sugar focuses on music city, nashville.

here are some plain and simple cuts by yours truly credit 00 that push just the right buttons to make people move. the tracks were made exclusively for his live set but they are too good to keep them back. without superfluous frills these four bangers scream party in every note but as usual with credit 00 theres also a melancholic side somewhere behind those tricky beats. house is a feeling!

slowmotion is born from a collaboration between hakim murphy and vince noog. noog has been rocking more on the techno tip over the years with releases on his label, but when the collaboration took place, beat-down feels appeared causing some house jams to develop. the ep is called beats from lugdunum, but why? lugdunum is the old school name for lyon and the surrounding areas, and these tunes were conceptualized, composed, and beated right there.

markus suckut is a name that needs no introduction in the techno scene having estabilished himself as one of the main players of the new breed of techno artists coming out of germany with releases on cocoon, figure, mosaic,non series and more. at be as one were excited to have him debut on the label with watching the sunset ep: three cuts of finely produced techno, from peak-time into after-hours, with markus very own raw trademark sound perfectly in balance with be as one latest techno offerings.

jacek sienkiewicz is back. *drifting* is the artists 5th full-length release and the second one on his warsaw-based label recognition since 1999. his records were played and strongly supported by renowned artists such as sven väth and richie hawtin, legendary producers like ricardo villalobos, uwe schmidt and recently, max loderbauer collaborated with jacek. the 3 track ep includes the full album on cd.

joe goddard just had to knock on that door. the wall of his recording studio had been pulsating with original analogue house jams for too long, dry ice practically sifting through the vents. behind that door was gentleman george t, and before long the two heads were nodding to obscure dat edits and 4th hand soul samples as george plundered a wealth of forgotten late 90s dats from of a box in the corner. true story. and now those dat edits, lovingly un-restored, are available for the first time on greco-roman, the record label, party and artist collective of whom hot chip s joe goddard is a founding member.

a true child of the rave generation, dj/producer warlocks mixtapes and radio show, on the now legendary london pirate station pulse fm, established his cult status as a stalwart of the early 90s uk dance scene.

rat life returns with the pagan rites on catalog number 4. little is known about the band from sweden, first signals were received in 2010 when they submitted their track 03 to the ifm demo contest. in october last year rat life sent out a submarine to search the swedish coast line for the small hut where the duo records their songs (apologies to the swedish authorities at this point, who confused our research with a russian military threat). all four tracks are packed with bittersweet melancholia, reflecting the neverending darkness of cold scandinavian winter, still the midnight sun is always in sight on the horizon! already recorded between 2008 - 2013, rat life records is very happy to finally make this music available on vinyl.

portion control is a british electronic and industrial band from south london. the trio of john whybrew, ian sharp and dean piavani started out experimenting with electronics in 1980. linking up with in phaze records, they released a number of cassettes and records before signing with illuminated records in 1983. there followed a series of classic 12inch singles: raise the pulse, rough justice and go-talk, which have become underground dancefloor hits. the band classifies their music style as >hard rhythmic electronics< and were a major influence on skinny puppy, front line assembly and depeche mode.

eddy romero & frink were digging in the rock formations beneath earth s crust and have quarried a track which was forged into the newest schallbox-vinyl straight by the pressure of the continental plates! schallbox018 is an expedition through a scarcely lit tunnel, down into a mysterious and cryptic underworld. the tracks pull fiction and element unfold a maelstrom that takes us ever deeper down into a dark abyss. pull fiction in m.ins remix version is a percussive club monster that gives over to sparsely flickering lights revealing the way onwards, while the mystical voices in steve cole & ronald christophs remix of element take us back into the daylight again.

in a time before cdj loop buttons and stone-cold arrangement techniques, bonus beats and beat records were a vital tool for aspiring, working and tone-deaf djs. the third release in an unofficial beat-tracks sublabel (se redshape and todd osborn for further reference) rhythm trainx vol 1 tries to breathe new life into that lost craft with an all-star cast: manuel tur, i:cube, blank spanner, disco nihilist, Âme and radio slave. all in different bpm, varying styles and (un)fortunately a bit more than simple kick-drum-hi-hat patterns. built to last.

for some it might be kraftwerk, but for me, my favourite electronic pioneers are probably australias severed heads. they were so far ahead of the game that they had to invent a lot of the technology they used. inspired, playful, never boring and always sonically brilliant they pushed at the frontiers of electronic music more than most. by the late 80s they were pursuing a slightly more polished course and made a series of records that had the potential to reach a much larger audience. possibly because of their name they never quite managed that, but they had several big club hits, the dub versions of which crossed over into the nascent house scene. i am honoured that i am able to make the dubs of those three 12 inches from 1988 - 1990 available again.

the swindlers return and not a minute too soon as far as were concerned! the hardest working duo in house music have had a mental couple of years playing every club and festival known to man, having babies, seemingly buying up the entire stock of vintage studio gear off ebay and thankfully knocking out some banging tunes on top of all that. well all club bangers gratefully received here at freerange so with open arms and ears were happy to be bringing you the figure of speech ep.

illusion recordings off shoot label innercircle is back for its fourth edition with french house wizard andrade stepping up for his debut ep with the illusion crew. andrade featured a remix on inc003 on james barnsley s huge spellbinder ep and after delivering the goods illusion were keen for him to flex his musical muscles across a full ep.
andrade has been on a rich vein of form recently releasing on delano smiths mixmode label, one records and dessous to widespread acclaim, cementing his standing as one of the most talented house producers around.

33-10-3402, also known as serbian-born artist/producer nenad markovic, returns to the esp institute for the fourth and final release in his opium den and whorehouse inspired mecanica series. metamorfoze is a psychedelic melting pot which can best be described as a train commute to a distant planet—our senses confronted left, right and center by unfamiliarities. its counterpart on side b entitled t bov boasts a pseudo tribal rhythm, yet its post-apocalyptic soundscaping takes us anywhere but the expected. at this point nenad has managed to whirl our imagination into a state of confusion so deep that were simply at a loss for words. its in these moments where we at the esp institute are most proud, with the birth of something absolutely new. bravo nenad, bravo.

another fine example of funky-soul at its very best. while the a-side is highly regarded within the northern soul scene, the b-side is the tune why funk 45 collectors are after this beauty. bot sides were recorded in the early 1970s and pressed on a small press run on 45rpm single. original copies are nowadays very hard to find and due to the outstanding quality sought after by record collectors worldwide.

no need to present fumiya tanaka. by far japans most talented and knowledgeable electronic musician and dj. he founded torema records, the first independent dance track labels in japan in 1993. since then hes been constantly rocking the floors around the world. fumiya made us love electronic music. were thrilled to welcome a true pioneer. dont miss this record.

we are proud to have dug out these two bomb tracks from the 90&#8242,s by manchester legend kid simmons. for some weird reasons these tracks were never released, but here we go now: 2 funky house bombs that will make you bounce and jump like there was no tomorrow. expect more to come from the archives of this man!

cristian vogel is a long-term innovator in the composition, mixing and performance of electronic music. spanning over two decades at the vanguard of european electronic music, his work has been acknowledged as an outstanding influence in the fields of composition for stage, club culture and studio. this is the first vinyl release of material from the archive remasters project. the project was successfully crowd-funded in december 2014 which enabled the establishment of edition cristian vogel, an edition handling the restoration and remastering of a large part of cristian vogels hard-to-find and unreleased productions dating back to the early 90s. the 1994 ep features a beefed-up remastering of the classic time originally released on his 1995 album absolute time on tresor. you will also find a rare proto-minimal track from the vinyl only artist in charge of expert systems ep originally released on mosquito records. scorpio and alien conversation are taken from his debut album originally released on mille plateaux in 1994. all tracks were remastered and cut from original dat tapes in february 2015 by manmademastering

paint en pointe is a compilation of selected compositions by eugene ward, otherwise known to most as dro carey / tuff sherm. the tracks have been taken from a series of performance collaborations with choreographer patric kuo over a 5 month period. the performances, which occurred monthly in the latter half of 2014, took place in spot81 gallery in chippendale, sydney. kuo and ward, along with a roster of dancers, were invited to create new dance works that responded to the exhibition occurring during the given month. throughout the series many ensemble types were explored, ranging from solos up to large groups of as many as 16 dancers. patric kuo is a sydney based dancer/choreographer originally trained in all styles, but presently heavily draws his influence from hip hop and contemporary dance. coming from a performing arts and commercial dance background, kuo has expanded his ideas about communicating to an audience, moving away from the traditional entertainment relationship towards an approach that includes engagement more informed by performance art

a fan of limitations, the maghreban took multi samples from his casio mt-70 keyboard and used only them to make this ep whilst on holiday in north wales last year. most of the tracks were made whilst staying at portmeirion, the strange resort where *the prisoner* was filmed in the late 60s. the maghreban is a fan. the result is more mechanical than previous excursions, dictated by the entirely synthetic source material. no dusty vinyl samples this time. more techno. very early support from ben ufo and lefto.

the eccentrics parties started some three years ago by will and mark, have been a monthly staple of the eclectic nightlife scene in peckham since its inception. the party has hosted many great guests over its three years, such as andi hanley, piers softrocks, toby tobias, phil mison, frank tope, bill brewster and many more. this 12inch is the culmination of mark and will saving their hard earned gig money so they can present the sound of eccentrics to a wider audience. these edits were put together along with another local hero sanky (a regular guest) whom has kindly provided the system edit and the artwork for the jacket.

dream weapons moonland from his pathways ep (holger 3, 2014) has been a favorite of many. accordingly, remix duties were given into the trustworthy hands of barnt and jens uwe beyer, two of the co-founders of much acclaimed cologne label magazine. an expert in mixing and structuring, barnt carves out the hidden capabilities of the original while jens uwe beyer takes a slightly more humorous but no less feet-moving approach to things. weirdo techno in typical magazine/holger style.

somethings happening in the eastern part of france, some analog boogie vibes were sent to the ccb camp and we felt obliged to release them on our next white label 12inch in the series.

the endurance club was launched in london on friday 13th november 2009 and ran as a regular party for the next three years. the aim was to treat electronic body music as an important genre in its own right rather than just a sub genre of industrial music, whilst linking it to early house and techno, belgian new beat and synthesizer dance music in general. body party is a tribute to all those that were part of the endureance club and to the artists that made the records we danced to.

as big fans of red axes, were happy to welcome niv and dori to the label. their first release for hivern is pil sagol, a three-track ep that features some of their most adventurous material to date. the title track is a slice of shamanic house full of playful melodies, dripping textures and steady rhythms that result in the sonic equivalent of psychotropic trip through the jungle. me and abra in ruanda drops the tempo but keeps the mind-expanding effect with its mangled brass sounds and ceremonious pads. todum todum is the most dance floor-driven cut of the ep, building tension through distorted toms, reverberant claps and an unrelenting bass line whilst keeping the narcotic vibe of the whole release through highly enchanting cosmic melodies. the 12inch comes in a captivating sleeve by barcelona-based designer xavier marin.

starting in 1990 recording for sheffield label ozone records under the name of panic with a release called voices of energy, which was then licensed to buzz in belgium, buzz 001, buzz then went on to release classics by carl craig and derrick may. he set up his own label in the same year solid groove records. the label had 30 vinyl releases over thirteen years and tracks were licensed by derrick may, terry francis, pete tong, adam x, and carl cox.as well as this he ran another four other label s, textures, dark, dot, and cheap knob gags.

10 rare french disco and boogie titles, all produced between 1975 and 1984. 500 copy press - check! on one hand, tracks by overdrive, marché noir, didier makaga or france-lise, were produced by underground artists and labels from the french caribbean and african community and also filled with the raw spirit of this tropical stamping. on the other hand, tracks by beckie bell, kelly, le club, or bernard guyvan, were released by major labels such as trëma, carrere, disques vogue, or pathé marconi, thanks to confirmed independent producers, acting not only in france, but also in canada and the us

christian löffler has already released two critically acclaimed albums, forest in 2012 and young alaska in 2014. both of which received major recognition and support. his next ep york, forthcoming on 2020vision narrowly avoided disaster after the laptop containing the demos was lost. after much perseverance, copies of the tracks were found and the ep came together. perhaps it was this fated start to york that imbues it with such a euphoric and stunning poignancy. either way, löffler has proved himself to be a compelling producer and after years of creating and releasing music he has become recognised as one of the best in the business. york complies with the consistency of his deep and emotive approach to production, making&#8232,,,,,,him synonymous with both a lightness of touch and a melancholia rarely heard in other producers.
